-Susan Cheever "The Nanny Conundrum"We've decided to let other women help raise our children so that our children
can have better lives; at least that's what we hope for. It's an excruciating
situation, as the nannies know better than anyone since many of them have made
exactly the same decision on a larger scale. We are more like our nannies than
we realize. We're all strung out between the old ways and the new, torn between
the demands of money and the demands of love. They have chosen to give their
children less mothering and so have we. There are bad nannies and good nannies
just as there are bad mothers and good mothers, but it's our similarities rather
than our differences that make the situation so painful.

Quote from "Searching for Mary Poppins"
Maybe some of the mothers over at I Saw Your Nanny should read this and then think about it for a bit:

I love that. Can I post it too? I promise to mention you as my source. I just think it says it all you know?
I bet you do, thats why you posted it. I will hold off posting it until you contact me. Thank you for a fabulous blog
I went to an awesome nanny conference this weekend, and that book was mentioned. Crap, now I'm REALLY going to have to go buy it. *sigh* Can't people ever be like, "I love the Babysitter's Club! Those are the BEST BOOKS EVER, and you should all read them!" Because then I could be like, "HA! I am SO not wasting my time or money on that!"
I love this quote. I want to read this book too. I am a nanny in NY. I like your blog.

Oh, and on a purely personal and self serving note: I've changed my blog address. It's now http://nannyinnewyork.com
When you have a chance, could you update your links?
Thanks so much!
"So much of what has been written about raising children is painted in an un realistically rosy light. That artificial reality isolates parents and makes them feel inadequate".
